A Wild Life: Photographs from the backcountry of Aotearoa

By Shaun Barnett (Potton & Burton, 2024)

The epilogue of Dave Hansford’s Kahurangi closes with some words from one of Shaun Barnett’s last interviews, before he died from cancer in 2024. “The more I learn about the connectivity of diversity, the connectivity of things,” he said, “it gives me a profound sense of joy.”

A Wild Life is a legacy in the form of a portfolio, a showcase of Shaun’s photography from a 30-year career as one of Aotearoa’s leading outdoor writers, editors and photographers. Part history, part science, part art, it does what Shaun did: inform, inspire, advocate and encourage us all to head for the hills, as often as possible, as long as we can.
