Music review: Good Miles To Go

Jackie Bristow & Barry Saunders (2024)

When Jackie’s not busy creating awesomeness with the music stars of tomorrow, she creates a fair bit of her own awesomeness too. She has released five albums and splits her time between Aotearoa and Nashville, USA, where she has been embraced by the Americana scene, sharing bills with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Chris Isaak and Art Garfunkel. The just-dropped single ‘Good Miles To Go’ is a collaboration between Jackie and Barry Saunders, he of the legendary country band The Warratahs.

It’s a road-weathered haunter, Jackie and Barry’s voices and a longing-infused harmonica weaving in and out of each other like highway junctions on an endless map: “when your sun is sinking is low / And the winds of change they blow / just move on … good miles to go.” They’ll be playing a few gigs together in Aotearoa this year, don’t miss the chance to hear this live. – LW
